Log Cabin

I'm sure I'm spot on if I say most quilters LOVE Log Cabin quilts! Well I'm one of them.I love the look of this quilt, the design within a design.......the cream friendship stars with the log cabin house in the centre and the woven look of the dark logs.Shame I couldn't just keep it on my bed aye? No it is off to the The Country Yard as a class sample. I will most defiantly put this on my TO-DO-List.

Here is a close up of the quilting I did. I just ditch stitched the dark logs. I did free form feathers in the cream logs.

Here is a close up of the centre of the quilt I got this design from a book I have on Trapunto...I would have loved to have Trapuntoed this, instead I used a contrasting thread...well a variegated in brown tones.

thimleberries quilt

Another customers quilt finished. It was quite funny when I got this quilt home and lay it out, I remembered I had this pattern! I have never made it..one of those 'OH I LIKE THAT" ...but so many others to make it hasn't been made. One day maybe, Rachael made this a little different from the pattern in the the fact that in the pattern there are some pieced blocks, Rachael wanted all applique , I think she did a fabulous job.

I cross hatched the cream backgrounds, did a leafy vine in the squares, stippled the cream on the border, stippled the blue background for the house and did a cable on the last border.Click on image for a close up . I remind myself often I'm not a photographer!!!

Trapunto

Here is a quilt  I really love. I did this when I was first really getting into quilting and wanted to have a go at Trapunto.
I used water soluble thread, not the traditional way of stuffing through the back of the quilt after you have quilted, I like this way as it it neat and crisp...and no whip stitching any seams!
I did a feather in the border and designed a feather for the four cream corners.

Here is a close up of the feather border, I used a Signature variegated thread for the Micro stipple background.

Here is a close up of the nine patch. I  McTavished  swirly 'hair' in the cream squares.

I would really like to make time to do more Trapunto as I really love the rich textured look, but it is time consuming...but fun to do. The designing of the quilting pattern is fun too.

Koru Quilt

Here is a lovely quilt I have just finished for Marcelle,
she did this as a BOM at The Cloth Shop
in Palmerston North (N.Z).I really wanted to do lots of interesting quilting quite heavily, but when Marcelle said it is to be used as a lap quilt not a wall hanging like I thought, I had to re-think.Being a lap quilt it needed to remain soft, not stiff as heavy quilting can do.

Please click on photo for a close up.

I tried to give this block the look of waves.
paua shell -sea weed around shell.
the back of the quilt-paua shell.

Here I tried for wind over the mountains.

spools quilt, quilted.

Hi there, I'm pleased to have my spool quilt all finished now.I love how it turned out, I just did simple quilting as I thought it would make a nice throw for the table, so I wanted to keep it soft. The back is made up largely of a panel I bought when I first started working at The Country Yard , it is a Debbie Mumm one it says:
being creative, using my heart, my hands, my mind, is an important part of who I am.

A close up of what i did for quilting.
I really like that. Anyway thankyou again to Joan for swapping blocks with me!
